Ecstatic Dance is an event taking place all over the world that brings together people of the community to express free form movement with mindfulness to sacred rhythms songs beats music that elevate the spirit.
At Aloha Shanthi, Ecstatic Dance takes on an Ayurvedic approach with its experience.
Ayurveda is influenced by 6 major philosophies of its time one of which is called Sankhya Philosophy.
Sankhya philosophy explains how out of ‘Avyaktam’ nothingness the state beyond all that is, emerges Purusha the state of passive consciousness and Prakruti, the expressive primordial creative potential. In other words the divine masculine principle and the divine feminine principle that throughout time we have come to know as God and Goddess, the Divine Parents of universal existence.
And from the Divine Mother Prakruti emerges all other principalities such as Mahad, Budhi, Ahankara, Mahaguna etc, that further descends into the elements ether, air, fire, water, earth that further descends to the material plane and its experiential existence.
At Aloha Shanthi we imitate this journey of consciousness into matter through our ecstatic dance as a way of honoring the two primary principalities of the universe Purusha – Divine passive consciousness and Prakruti the Creative energy.
We begin in stillness and meditation to connect with the divine principle of Purusha and slowly begin our free form movement symbolizing Prakruti as energy in motion and after 90 minutes of free form dance ending in what is known as the corpse pose in yoga – savasana , in total silence and rest, to observe and become aware of the vibrations emanating from the physical body, symbolizing the divine union or yoga of Purusha and Prakruti.
Ayurvedic Ecstatic dance is a more sacred, safe and healthy way to have fun, returning to one’s innocence, dancing in ecstasy and pure bliss.
During the dance people may experience various emotional releases as well as a sense of total freedom. Plus, dancing is a great workout and a therapeutic means to overcome inhibitions and let go of negativities one may unconsciously be holding onto.
Join us at Aloha Shanthi every Friday 6pm-730pm to dance your heart away in ecstasy.
