Reiki is the practice of using universal life-force energy to balance our the chakras, or primary energy centers throughout the body. This energy is present in each of us along with all living things, but may be weakened when we are stressed or ill. Reiki is practiced by channeling this energy (also known as Ki, Chi, or Prana) from the environment into the body in order to aid in the healing process. While reiki isn’t designed to treat any one particular symptom, many recipients experience symptom relief since Ki will always naturally flow to the area where the root of the imbalance is occurring.
Reiki can have a wide array of benefits – it is a fantastic tool to promote relaxation, accelerate healing, assist the body in cleansing toxins, and balance the flow of subtle energy by releasing blockages. Energy work is suitable for nearly every individual and treatment can be personalized based on a person’s symptoms or complaints. Everyone’s experience while receiving Reiki is different, but many clients report marked changes in pain levels, attitude, and overall quality of life after consistent treatments.
What should I expect from a session?
Sessions are typically between 30 minutes to 1 hour in length. If you feel comfortable laying down, you may lay on the belly or back for the full session. You can expect a practitioner to place their hands in 10-15 different hand positions on or just above the body throughout the session, depending on where particular imbalances are noticed. If you are wearing jewelry, you may be asked to remove it, since some metals can inhibit energy flow. All you need to do during a session is relax and breathe. If needed, you may be shown specific breathing exercises to guide you. Many people will experience feelings of lightness or tingling, flashes of color, warming or cooling of the body, or other sensations, but each person will have different experience and may go through a wide array of feelings through the treatment.
Emily is a Reiki practitioner and certified Hatha Yoga and meditation teacher who completed her training at the Lisa Powers Academy and Konalani Yoga ashram in Kailua-Kona. Originally from Kentucky, she has traveled and shared her practice all over the country but found her home here in Hawaii. She initially began practicing Reiki to assist with her own ongoing chronic pain and illnesses but later found it to be an extremely powerful tool to help others who are also feeling unwell. She has personally experienced the power of using energy work along with breath meditation to help heal the mind, body, and spirit, and has worked with many students over the years who have also sought out healing on a deeper level. Whether you are new to Reiki or already receive regular sessions, everybody is welcome to schedule an appointment!
